Who else is feeling like Rapunzel right now? My hand’s way up right here and I’m definitely not the only one. It’s hard to believe that we’re in this situation right now but it’s happening. To keep hairstylists sane during this time, here is a list of 20 things a natural hair stylist can do when confined to home.
- Get some rest. It’s ok.
- Learn a new braiding technique
- Learn about new natural hair products
- Update your website
- Update your listings especially your hours on YP, Yelp, CurleeMe, etc
- Be more active on social media platforms
- Take care of much needed housework
- Read a book
- Create tutorials for YouTube, Instagram or Facebook on how your clients can do some simple hairstyles
- Check on your clients from time to time
- Complete a puzzle
- Binge watch your favorite tv shows on a streaming service. Don’t have one? This is the best time to get a free trial and cancel when it expires. I recommend Madame C.J. Walker on Netflix 🙂
- Offer advice on social platforms and your blog on how to take care of your natural hair
- Link up with other members in the natural hair community to host Q&As
- If you have kids, have fun with them
- Learn a new language
- Learn how to meditate
- Learn how to make a wig to make some extra cash
- Catch up on movies you weren’t able to see in the theaters or try out theater rentals
- Lastly, come to terms with the fact that some of your clients might mess up their hair during this downtime by retightening or retwisting, dyeing, cutting or neglecting their hair. It’s going to happen unfortunately.
