One of the most frustrating things for a naturalista is when we simply can’t find a hairstylist to do our hair for an event or just our normal day to day routine. You know what I mean right? As a woman with coily textured hair, it’s quite normal to occasionally need a protective style like braids, weaves or a natural hair style like locs, twists, cornrows etc. There are other times where we want to wear our natural hair out bold, proud and well deep conditioned. So, when you simply can’t find a natural hair stylist in your area because you’re further away from the closest city/town or every hairstylist you know is booked your frustration level skyrockets. Ok, time to breathe my friend. Here are a few ways to find a hairstylist in your area to keep yourself sane through these hard times.
Referrals:
Referrals are the oldest way in the book to find business owners for practically everything. So, ask for referrals even when you don’t need them because that time will come when you do. Don’t be shy, when you see someone at the grocery store with really nice and neat braids. That’s your chance to get someone new in your referral book.
Social Media:
Social media platforms like Instagram has proven itself worthy from time to time when looking to get your hair done. Search tags like #naturalhairstylist #naturalhaircare #braidscityname etc. You might get a pretty good hit for a hairstylist in your area. Be careful though, not all hairstylists are alike. Do your research and find those that are keen on taking care of your hair and not only focussed on the hairstyle itself.
Use a natural hair stylist directory
Using a natural hairstylist directory like our very own CurleeMe is another great way to go. Our directory is filled with hairstylists that specialize in natural hair care, natural hair styles, braids, weaves/hair extensions, color, locs and more. Our goal is to help connect women with coily/curly hair with hairstylists in their area. All our hairstylists are also handpicked, recommended or reviewed thoroughly so most of the research is done for you.
So there you have it! 3 ways to keep yourself sane when looking for a natural hair stylist near you.
